Screw Splinter Blue

So, the entire Beer Thursdays crew couldn't come, so Splinter Blue wasn't opened. Maybe next time. We did open 16 bottles between 4 members tonight though, and I've been drinking since 4am. Long day, but well worth it.

Highlights were the Autumn Maple (for me), the Greater Pumpkin form Heavy Seas, and the 2008 Pumking. Another great night. Hopefully more updates coming soon.

Massive Update

So I've been super lazy for the better part of the summer, but I have taken pictures, and keeping track of what we've been drinking. I'm going to make it a point to do better from here on out.

So BT#4 was at Hawthornes in Philadelphia for the Alesmith releaseon April 29th. We were able to grab Alesmith IPA,
Wee Heavy, and Speedway Stout. They also had Pliny the Elder on tap, and let us grab a growler of that to take home.

Beer Thursdays #5 was back at the Moo Bar on May 29th. We opened 16 different beers, crushing our average of 12 a night. Beers included were:
DFH Festina Peche
Dark Horse Crooked Tree
Dark Horse Reserve Special Black Bier
Dark Horse Too Cream Stout
2006 Stoudts Fat Dog
A Home Brew Pliny the Elder Clone
Piraat Ale
Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast
Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel
Great Divide Espresso Oak Yeti
Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous
Cockeyed Cooper
Allagash Black
Dogfish Head Squall IPA
Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere
Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout

The last Beer Thursday (#6) was on 6/24/10, where we once again opened 16 different bottles! Unbelievable that anyone could walk away. The theme was fruit beers and the night included:
Ithaca LeBleu
Voodoo Love Child
Hitachino Ginger
Cantillon Brucsella 1900
Van Twee
Great Divide Hercules
Sea Dog Raspberry Wheat
Saison Du Buff
Highland St Terese's
One of the Troegs Scratch Beers
Stone Old Guardian
Avery Seventeen
Dogfish Head Sha'Tea
Bear Republic Racer 5
DuClaw Serum
Allagash Victoria

Well, that's just a lot of beer. Next Beer Thursday is August 5th, so be ready for another update then. We are going to do our first blind test, so not only a list, but reactions will be here for all to see.

Beer Thursdays 4 and 5

So I never put an update for Beer Thursdays 4 as we went to Philly for the re-release of Ale Smith in the Philly area. Bottles were purchased, food was eaten, and Elder was enjoyed by all.

Beer Thursday #5 took place on a Saturday due to popular demand, and 15 bottles were opened between 7 participants. Most notably was our good friend Duffy brining over a bottle of Samuel Adams Utopias for everyone to sample. Pictures will be up soon, and the next Beer Thursday will be June 24th.

Back From Dark Lord Day

We made it back, and it was a hell of a time. Forcast was for rain, so we thought, "Hey, maybe a lot of people won't show up..." Man were we wrong! We got to Three Floyds around 10:15AM, and found two lines that had to hold well over 5000 people.
So rather than waiting in line, we decided to walk to the front and see what else was going on. We found a guest beer trailer which held Dogfish, Surly, Founders, and many other great breweries.
From the list, were were able to try four new beers. Tea Bagged Furious, Sticky Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and HeadHunter.
Then we got in line, and a few hours later, we ended up with our Cases of Dark Lord. 2009 and 2010 were available for purchase, so both were acquired. As they day went on, we met up with from friends, and were able to try even more beers. To go along with an Oak Aged Dark Lord, and a group of Three Floyds Beers:

Alpha Klaus
Robert the Bruce
Samurai Gazebo
Alpha King
Gumballhead
This guy and some friends were nice enough to share beers that they were able to bring with them. This is where things got a little dicey trying to remember everything, but there was an Enigma, Barrel Aged Yeti,
a 2006 Barley Wine, something hand carried from Belgium, and a growler of Exit 16. Possibly a few more, but I can't remember everything.

Ended up being a pretty amazing weekend, and we were able to get a few nice bottles back home. We'll break those out when we see all of you! See you Thursday!

Beer Thursdays goes to the MLB Season Opener!

Four of the Beer Thursday guys went to the MLB Season Opener between the Phillies and the Nationals on April 5th. Needless to say, we ended up with the most eclectic grouping of beers that parking lot had ever seen. While this list doesn't actually qualify as a Beer Thursday list, it was still pretty good.

DFH Raison D'etre
Founders Centennial IPA
Moylans Hopsickle
DFH Liquor De Malt
Russian River Damnation
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye
Troegs Nugget Nectar
Boulder Mojo Risin'
DFH 90 Minute
2007 Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
Stone Ruination
DFH Squall IPA

Still hitting that 12 average boys!

When does 3 = 13? When you're drinking at Beer Thursdays #3!

Week three is in the books. Maybe not as epic as last week, but 13 bottles got opened up. Unofficial theme of the night became Beligums. Check out the list.

The Bruery Saison Rue
Saison Dupont
Gulden Drakk
Ommegang Abbey Ale
Maredsous 10
Victory Helios
Flying Fish Exit 4
Flying Fish Exit 16
Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar
Espresso Oak Yeti
Planet Bean Coffee Stout
Arcadia Hop Rocket
Troegs Mad Elf

Still a pretty amazing night if you ask me. I think we are going to have to average 12, just for appearance sake. Seems to be working for the last three weeks. Next BT will be on April 29th. Any Ideas for a theme?

Next Beer Thursday

So the NewBrewThursdays guys are going to be at DFH tonight, and there is no way I can make it down. They messaged me the other night and said they had to move their date, so that kinda stinks. We can still go down on the 1st and do our thing at DFH if everyone is still game

Haven't updated anything basically because there is nothing else to update. I've been searching the area for Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout, but so far, no luck. I did find a few bottles of Supplication sitting around, but decided not to grab them as I already have some at the house.

Have a few things coming in the mail, but nothing too outrageous. I did manage to score a 2010 Kate the Great at Tj's last weekend, and a 2008 Surly Darkness in a trade, but I don't think those will get opened until maybe next St. Pats day. May have a few more Coffee Benders that everyone liked coming my way, so we should be able to enjoy that one again.

Other than that, just keep looking for good stuff.

Beer Thursdays is going to get Younger!

A few of the Beer Thursdays crew is heading up to a certain bar to grab Pliny The Younger today! Should be an pretty impressive list of brews available too.

Pictures and a report to come later today!

Friday, March 19, 2010

Didn't think it could get any better? Well it did!

F'in Awesome! That was the motto of the night.
Once again, we opened 12 beers. Words just can't describe this line up, so have a look.

Iron Hill Russian Imperial Stout
2008 Founders Breakfast Stout
2007 Dogfish Head World Wide Stout
Troegs Java Head Stout
2008 AleSmith Speedway Stout
Victory Storm King Stout
Flying Fish Exit 1
2008 Rogue Imperial Stout in the Ceramic Bottle
2008 Deschutes The Abyss
2006 Three Floyds Dark Lord Imperial Stout
Dogfish Head Wrath of Pecant
Dogfish Head Theobroma

We were working up to the Dark Lord, but once we got there, there was no stopping. Almost opened a Growler, but people started running! Very successful night, and we may take the next Beer Thursday on the road...

12?!? Again!

Ok, so we decided that 8 different types of beer would be opened tonight, but that didn't work out so well. After the first six (Iron Hill RIS, 08 Founders Breakfast Stout, 07 WWS, Storm King, and two more) we still had four to go.

Last four were Flying Fish Exit 1, 2008 Rogue Imperial Stout in the ceramic bottle, 2008 Abyss, and 2006 3 Floyds Dark Lord.

Once the Dark Lord was gone, we decided to open some Dog Fish stuff that most haven't had enough of. So a bottle of Wrath of Pecant and 2008 Theobroma were opened.

Then there was something about a cow and West Side Story.

More to come tomorrow, possibly with a new logo. I kind of remember it all, but here's the picture I had on my phone. More pictures to come tomorrow...

It's Beer Thursday!

Today is Beer Thursday, and we will be opening a good amount of beer again. Same six should be here as last time, and some mighty fine brews are set to be opened. Check back later tonight for the list, and hopefully we can get some kind of reviews and pictures for the night.

Looking forward to the brews, and hope everyone brings something great!

See you tonight.

Upcoming events

A couple of big events coming up I plan on going to. Anyone want to join?

Pliny the Younger and Friends at Tj's in Paoli - March 20
The Brandywine Craft Brewers' Fest May 15

And don't forget the next Beer Thursday is March 18th at 6:30. A night of Stouts.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Stocking up!

Because the next Beer Thursday is the day after St. Patrick's Day, I decided that a few Stouts would be in order. I've come up with a list of five that I would be interested in trying, and wanted opinions. Let me know what you think..

08 Dark Lord
08 Abyss
07 World Wide
Ten FIDY
Breakfast Stout

Thinking we could open at least two of those on top of the other five. Problem is I only have one bottle of each of the top three.

Opinions or suggestions on any others?

12 Beers!

Still feeling the effect of 12 beers opened on the first Beer Thursday! Planned on 6, maybe 8, but 12 was Epic. Trying to remember the list, we had Supplication, Beer Geek Breakfast, Old Rasputin 12, Voodoo Love Child, a home brew dubbel, Yuengling bock, Yakima Twilight, Founders Nemesis, and a few more I can't remember..... List and some reviews coming tomorrow. Next beer Thursday is March 18th. We'll do at least 6 Stouts for St. Patrick's Day. Do I hear a DL opening?!?!

Logo Idea

Here is the idea I came up with for a logo tonight. It's pretty much crap, but it gets the point across.

Snow. We don't need no stinkin' snow!

This is the first Beer Thursday, and of course, the weather people are calling for snow. Like the North East needs any more...

Anyway, I'm heading to my favorite beer store, Capone's, on Thursday morning to pick up some special brew for this weeks festivities. Ends in -ation!

First Beer Thursday!

Our first Beer Thursday will be February 25 at 6:30 PM. We have five confirmed guests who have all agreed to bring 30 ounces of beer. Five or Six beers will be available for tasting. Since this is our first event, everything is on the table, so it should be pretty easy to find something to bring.

Expect a list of what was tasted a few days after the tasting and a date for the next tasting.
